King of the Keyboard&Mouse sets
i bought The Logitech Cordless Desktop MX to match my new pc. It is a bit excessive to spend this sort of money on a keyboard & mouse....but i love it.

I didnt need to install any software for it to work, luckily its Plug & Play (for Windows XP, my OS....dont know abt other OS).

There are alot of extra buttons on the keyboard..most of them i havent used yet. Some i wont ever use but they are customiseable.

The mouse is a joy to use compared to my old one....but like it says on the manual....its not designed to work on glass or shiney surfaces, it can get annoying because my desk is shiney. I have to use the mouse on a piece of paper. Its also has a rechargeable battery....so no more hunting for batteries....unfortunately the keyboard does take 2 AA batteries. Ive had it for a month & the keyboard batteries are still going strong.

Top marks for Logitech
An absolutely fantastic combination of comfort, repsonse and looks. Everything that you need is in the box, including the batteries (the mouse batteries are NiMH rechargeables). The kit includes: ps2 to usb adapters (2), power supply, base station, keyboard, mouse, batteries, installation guide, software cd and an optional (hard) wrist wrest for the keyboard.

A doddle to install and setup, even enabling the encryption on the keyboard was easy (so people cant snoop on what you are typing).

Keyboard is comfortable, with a low angle layout, and all the extra keys work well with windows2000 (service pack 4). The volume control is a rotational wheel at the top dead centre of the keyboard - very nice and intuitive and having a scroll wheel on the left of the keyboard and one on the mouse means that I can quickly change hands when scrolling down a long document. The F-Lock comes on at boot time if it was on before the last shutdown - a major pain if it doesnt (like my keyboard at work).

I have yet to boot into Linux to test it out. I expect the extra buttons will just become decoration (does anyone know if there are open source plug-ins to enable these keys to work in x-windows?) though the keyboard and mouse should function normally.

Mouse is responsive, accurate and comfortable. Im even thinking of buying one of these mice for my desktop at work!

Note - Mouse is right handed only (do Logitech produce a left hander?).

The only thing that I would like to change about the whole set is the length of the usb cable - and thats only because I have a cack-handed desk layout! PC bottom left of desk, on a shelf, base station on the right of the desk - the cable is at full extension, but it still makes it! I suppose I can always find a ps2 or usb extension cable!

Cant give any information about longevity or reliability as Ive only had it 2 days. Will report more when I know more.

Id say even given the steep price that one can pay for good keyboards and mice, this is well worth it - after all the keyboard and mouse are the interface between you and the computer (and the internet, your music, email, friends, work, etc).

Meet the King of Desktop Sets
Ill try and answer as many common questions as I can in my short review.

Like many people, I was concerned that the reliability of the wireless technology would be poor. Having heard many bad things about Wireless keyboards, I decided to buy an expensive one. I think most people would agree that £75 is quite a lot to spend on a Keyboard, but it sure is worth it...

I can now say, that the range of both the mouse and the keyboard are amazing. The keyboard still works from about 15 metres away, through several walls. The keyboard has a very stylish design; it is fairly thin and flat and looks great.

It has more buttons than a stealth bomber, including multimedia & audio controls (Play, pause, mute, next track, previous track etc). Other buttons include email, Internet, web cam, messenger, favourites, search, Internet home & shopping.
You can also activate special iTouch commands, which make various F Keys do different things - such as F11 opens My Pictures F12 opens My Music
Obviously, you can customize what each button does and easily switch between the special F Key commands and the normal ones.
It takes two double AA batteries, their life will obviously depend on how much typing you do. But it isnt really too much for a problem, they should last a fair amount of time.

The mouse is very accurate, and NEVER lags, being an ultimate tool for gamers.
It fits perfectly into your hand, and all of its buttons are easily accessible.
You wont need to switch the batteries in the mouse, as they are rechargeable and can be charged in the wireless receiver.

The Wireless receiver works as a double receiver for both the Mouse and the Keyboard. It plugs into the mains. It outputs to both the standard keyboard/mouse inputs or USB sockets.

Installation was very easy, just follow the plain English instructions and youll have no problem at all.

I guarantee that you wont be disappointed, this is a seriously good piece of kit that makes the best use of wireless technology.
